About GRM LAW

We advise private lenders, developers, funds and business owners on complex corporate, banking & finance, property and commercial matters across Australia.

Who Are We?

GRM LAW was founded by Gavin McInnes to give sophisticated clients a boutique alternative to large‑firm service on complex, high‑value matters. From the outset, the focus has been corporate, banking & finance and property work rather than volume or commoditised matters.

Over nearly 20 years, the firm has advised private and listed companies, private credit funds, real estate fund managers, developers, business owners and high net worth families across Australia. Our work spans private credit and real estate finance, property development and projects, business sales and acquisitions, corporate governance and commercial contracts, structuring & asset protection, franchising and IP & technology‑driven transactions.

Many of our instructions sit at the intersection of these areas – for example, acting for lenders and sponsors on real estate finance and fund structures, for developers across the full project lifecycle, or for private businesses on M&A and post‑transaction integration.

Whatever the matter type, the objective is the same: clean structures, commercially sound documents and practical strategies that hold up under pressure and scrutiny.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of clients does GRM LAW act for?

We primarily act for private lenders and credit funds, property developers, real estate fund managers, private and listed companies, family‑owned businesses and high net worth individuals. We are best suited to matters where there is real commercial complexity and a need for senior attention.

Our core focus areas are corporate and commercial advisory, banking & finance, property and projects, business transactions (acquisitions and disposals), structuring & asset protection, franchising and IP & technology‑driven commercial arrangements.

No. GRM LAW is based in Brisbane but advises clients across Queensland and throughout Australia. Many of our matters involve national businesses, interstate projects and counterparties in multiple jurisdictions.

We offer specialist corporate, banking & finance and property expertise with boutique service. Matters have direct partner involvement, turnaround times are tight, and communication is plain‑English. Clients get large‑firm calibre work without feeling like a small file in a large system.

Yes, but selectively. We regularly act in disputes that are closely linked to our transactional work, such as construction and development disputes, enforcement and recovery matters for secured lenders, and commercial / shareholder disputes connected to our corporate practice. Where a matter falls outside those areas, we can refer you to specialist litigation counsel.

We typically start with an initial discussion to understand your objectives, structure and timeframes. We then propose a clear scope, fee structure and timeline. For many clients we act as ongoing advisers across multiple matters; for others we are engaged for specific transactions or projects.

We use a mix of hourly rates and fixed or capped fees, depending on the nature and predictability of the work. For well‑defined transactions we will usually provide a scoped fee estimate or fixed‑fee proposal. For ongoing advisory work, we agree parameters up front so there are no surprises.
